Summary

Miredo Wi-Fi Transfer runs on your phone and your local Wi-Fi network. The app has no account, no sign-up and no cloud storage. It does not send your files, text or personal data to us or to any server of ours. The only data that leaves your phone because of the app comes from Google services: advertising in the free version (Google AdMob and Google's consent form), purchases (Google Play Billing), and a small public settings file we host (see below).

How the app works on your local network

  • When you tap Start, the app runs a small web server on your phone. Only devices on the same local network can reach it.
  • A computer can connect only after you approve it on the phone, or after it enters the 6-digit PIN shown in the app. Each session uses a random access token, and tapping Stop ends all sessions.
  • The app announces the name miredotransfer.local and the phone's address on your local network (multicast DNS), so that a browser on the same network can find the phone. This announcement stays inside your local network and does not go to the internet.
  • If you choose "Remember this computer", a random device key is stored on the phone (encrypted with the Android Keystore) and in that browser's local storage, so the computer can reconnect later. You can remove any remembered computer in the app.
  • In this version the local connection uses HTTP, not HTTPS. Use the app on networks you trust, for example at home or in the office, because other devices on the same network could in principle observe local traffic.

What the app does with your content

  • Files, text and clipboard content are sent only between your phone and the browser you connected, during the session. The app does not send them to us or to any cloud service.
  • Files you download from the phone are read only when you open the lists or download them.
  • Files you upload from the browser are saved on the phone in the Miredo Wi-Fi Transfer folder in Download, unless you choose a folder of your own (see folder access below).
  • A small signed usage-counter file named miredo-usage.dat is kept on the phone in Download/Miredo Wi-Fi Transfer (it protects the one-time Pro trial and the daily counters against clock changes and clearing the app's data). It contains only the date, a usage count, time stamps and a boot counter, signed with a key derived from the Android ID of your device; the Android ID and the file are never sent anywhere. It is hidden inside the app and cannot be downloaded through the browser. If the app's data is cleared while that file is still present, the app recognises this and does not offer the Pro trial again; your files and Pro purchase are not affected. You may delete the file by hand at any time.
  • Settings, the trial start time, the first-launch time and daily counters are kept in the app's private storage. These settings (not your files, not the transfer history, not the remembered computers) take part in Android's automatic backup to your Google account and in device-to-device transfer, if you have those turned on, so that a reinstall does not hand out a second trial. Backups are handled by Google under your Google account settings; you can switch them off in Android settings.
  • Notifications tell you that the server is running, that a file was received and that a computer is asking to connect. Notifications never contain the PIN, the IP address or the port.

Folder access (Android folder picker)

If you choose to save received files into a folder of your own, you select that folder with Android's folder picker. The app then gets access only to the folders you selected, and only for as long as you keep them in the app. You can remove a folder in the app at any time, and you can also withdraw the access in Android's settings. The app does not request access to all files on your phone.

Transfer history (Pro, trial and rewarded unlock)

The app keeps a local history of recent transfers on the phone, in a private file used only by the app. Each entry can contain the time, the direction (received or sent), the kind of item, the file or text name, the size and the name of the device the transfer was with. Only the most recent entries are kept, and older ones are removed automatically. The history is not sent to us, and it is not included in Android backups or device transfers. You can clear the whole history with the Clear button in the app.

Third-party services

  • Google Play Billing processes purchases; Google's privacy policy applies. We receive no payment details.
  • Google AdMob shows ads in the free version and may use the advertising ID and device information for ad delivery and measurement, according to Google's policies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). Pro users and users in the free trial see no ads, and the ad SDK is not started. Ad requests start only after the consent step.
  • Ads are never shown in the browser on your computer, and never while a transfer is running. A full-screen ad can appear when a transfer starts from the phone (at most once every 10 minutes and 4 times a day in the free version), and a banner ad is shown on the phone's main screen. We may also switch on an ad shown when you open the app; it is off in the current version. You can also choose to watch a rewarded ad to unlock Pro features (folders, history) for 2 hours, at most twice a day.
  • Whether you hold Pro is checked on your phone through Google Play Billing (purchase token and product ids stay with Google Play). The app has no account system and we receive no purchase data.
  • At most once a day the app downloads a small public settings file (config.json and its signature) from miredotransfer.technoroma.app, for example to adjust how often ads appear. The request contains no identifier of yours. As with any web request, your IP address is visible to the hosting provider of that site, which may keep it in short-lived server logs; we do not use it to identify you. The app verifies the file's signature before using it.

Permissions

Most permissions are optional. Each is used only for the feature described here:

  • Photos and videos / Music and audio (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO; on older Android versions, storage read access): to let you browse and download media from the browser. If you do not grant it, you can still pick individual items with the Android photo picker or the system file picker.
  • Storage write (Android 9 and older only): to save received files.
  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): to show the server and transfer status described above.
  • Foreground service: keeps the local transfer server running while you use it; it stops when you tap Stop.
  • Internet, network state and Wi-Fi multicast state: to run the local server, to announce the phone on your local network, and (free version only) to load ads.
  • Advertising ID (AD_ID): used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK in the free version, as described above.
  • The app does not request access to all files on your phone.

Children

The app is intended for users aged 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Data retention and deletion

We do not hold any of your personal data, so there is nothing for us to delete. Data on your phone (settings, remembered computers, the transfer history and the free daily counter) is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. Received files stay in their folder until you delete them. For data processed by Google (ads, Google Play), use Google's tools or reset your advertising ID. For any request or question, write to miredo-support@technoroma.app.

Your rights

Because we receive no personal data through the app, we usually cannot identify you or hold anything about you. If you believe we do hold data about you (for example from an e-mail you sent us), you can ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction, object to processing, and ask for data portability, by writing to miredo-support@technoroma.app. You may also complain to your local data-protection supervisory authority. For data processed by Google (AdMob, Google Play, backups), Google is responsible; see Google's privacy policy and your Google account controls. Where we process e-mail correspondence, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Changes

We may update this policy, for example when new features are added. Updates are published at this address with a new date.
